Were back on the road again
and on our way to Needles, California

Needles, founded in 1883, is one of the oldest living communities on the Colorado River, rich in history and promise for the future. The fabric of its past is intricitely woven of influences of the river, the railroad, Old Trails Highway (later Route 66), the Mojave Indian Tribe, and pre-history - evidence of which abounds on the land. Perhaps most of all it has been influenced by it's climate... hot summers offset by mild and wonderful winters.

Very hot here in the summer around 125 in the shade.

So let's stop here an get a soda or a Ice Cream.

some years back and set about breathing life back into this desolate rest stop. Roy's Cafe Motel, built in the thirties to accommodate the then brisk Chicago to Los Angeles traffic has been left untouched.

This town is not restored or modernized, but the real thing. There are ten buildings in Amboy and a population of twenty. The owners display a gracious hospitality to passing motorists and tourists as well as playing host to movie companies, photo shoots, and events from all over the world. Come to Amboy, our town can be yours!

Where does Route 66 End?

Evidence that Route 66 extends from Lincoln to Ocean Avenue along Santa Monica Boulevard lies firmly in the ground at Palisades Park. Here, in 1952, a plaque was placed stating simply, "Will Rogers Highway, dedicated 1952 to Will Rogers, Humorist, World Traveler, Good Neighbor. This Main Street of America, Highway 66 was the first road he traveled in a career that led him straight to the hearts of his countrymen."
